About the citizenship test

From 6 June 2026, stricter requirements apply for Swedish citizenship. One requirement is basic knowledge of Swedish society, which can be shown through a passed citizenship test at UHR – or in other ways, for example Swedish school grades or an approved SFI course D.

• Format: about 60 multiple-choice questions with four options, 90 minutes, in Swedish.
• Content: the test is based entirely on the study material Sverige i fokus (UHR & Skolverket), divided into 13 chapters.
• First test: 15 August 2026 in Stockholm (a free trial test, for invited participants only). Regular test rounds are planned from 2027 in several locations.
• Who is affected: applicants aged 16 to 66. People who have turned 67 are exempt, as are certain people with disabilities.
• Pass threshold: not yet set by UHR – it is calibrated after the first test.
• Language test: a separate test in Swedish (reading and listening) is introduced by 1 October 2027 at the latest.

Registration is done via UHR after a letter from Migrationsverket. Beware of fraud – UHR never asks for payment via SMS or unknown links.
